Joseph was placed in a pit, sold as slave, and “enjoyed” the hardships of prison in a foreign country when the Lord called him to speak to a nation and a world facing famine (Genesis 41:14). Deborah was called to be a judge in Israel when women were not allowed to hold such positions to save her people from the hands of the enemy, Jabin, king of Canaan (Judges 4:4). David, a shepherd boy, who was despised by his brothers and overlooked by his father, was asked to deliver bread and ended up crushing the Philistine army by cutting off Goliath’s head (I Samuel 17:51).“
